Cost

What goes into the price of lip fillers

The one published national figure is a starting point for your questions, not a price.

USD 698

American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 2023 national average physician’s fee for lip augmentation with injectable materials. It is the provider’s fee alone and the latest filler figure ASPS has published.

What moves the price

  • Which product is used
  • How many syringes you need
  • Who injects, and their training
  • Follow-up or touch-up visits
  • Whether a consultation fee applies

Providers set their own prices. Ask for a written quote and whether a consultation fee applies.

How to choose who does your lip fillers in New York

In New York, injecting filler is a medical procedure that needs a health care licence; cosmetologists and estheticians may not inject. A registered nurse carries out treatment a licensed prescriber has prescribed, so ask who prescribes and oversees it.

New York issues no med spa license. In January 2026 the Department of State, after inspecting more than 200 appearance enhancement businesses, warned that injections are medical and told consumers to check the provider’s license. You can do that on the NYSED Office of the Professions online verification search.

The FDA advises a licensed provider with dermatology or plastic surgery experience who is trained in filler injection. The American Board of Dermatology (Derm Search) and the American Board of Plastic Surgery each have a lookup. Our Brooklyn guide compares med spas, dermatology offices and plastic surgery practices.

  1. What license do you hold, and who supervises or prescribes?
  2. Which FDA-approved product will you use for me, and why that one?
  3. Can I see the sealed, labeled syringe and read the patient labeling?
  4. How much do you plan to use, and where exactly will it go?
  5. Do you keep hyaluronidase on hand, and how do you handle a complication?

The products

Product names, said plainly

Almost every lip filler used in New York is a hyaluronic acid gel, a substance the body makes naturally that holds water and adds soft volume. Many lip products also contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic. The FDA classes fillers as medical devices and approves each product for named uses only.

So the product name matters. Our Juvederm, Restylane and RHA guide lists each lip product with its approval, and our dermal filler guide explains how lip gels differ from other fillers. Seen flat, tall lips on social media? Read about the Russian lip technique first.

Never buy filler online

The FDA warns against fillers sold directly to consumers, which may be counterfeit or unapproved, and against needle-free filler pens, which it has not approved for filler injection.

Risks

What can go wrong, in the FDA’s words

The FDA lists common side effects as bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and rash, and less common ones as lumps, infection, allergic reaction and tissue damage. Some appear weeks, months or years later.

Read moreShow less

The most serious risk is filler injected into a blood vessel, which can cause tissue death, blindness and stroke, and can be permanent. Get care at once for unusual pain, vision changes, white or blue skin near the injection, or signs of a stroke. In an emergency, call 911.

FDA-approved fillers are for adults 22 and older; safety in pregnancy or breastfeeding is unknown. Only a licensed provider who examines you can say whether filler suits you.

Questions

Questions New Yorkers ask about lip fillers

Who will I talk to?

Lip Fillers NYC is a free referral service, not a medical provider, clinic or med spa. An independent, licensed provider in New York City contacts you and is responsible for any treatment. We may receive compensation from participating providers.

Which lip filler is right for me?

Only a provider who examines you can say. Products from the Juvederm, Restylane and RHA families are FDA approved for the lips; ask which one they suggest and why.

Who is allowed to inject lip filler in New York?

A licensed health professional, such as a physician, or a registered nurse working under a licensed prescriber. Estheticians and cosmetologists may not. Check the license on the NYSED search.

Do lip fillers last forever?

No. Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary, and the FDA studies behind the lip approvals followed patients for about a year.

Is sending a request free?

Yes, and you never have to book. Ask the provider whether a consultation fee applies.

Can I go to a provider in another borough?

Yes. Choose someone you can easily get back to, since a follow-up visit is common.

Should I put medical details in the form?

No. Just your name, how to reach you and what you are looking into. The provider asks about your health in person.

Is the Russian lip technique the same as normal lip filler?

It uses the same gel, placed for a flatter profile and more height, and crosses both lip borders, which carries some risk. Our Russian lips guide explains what to ask.

Compared the options? Ask a provider in your borough.

Free to ask. Nothing is booked until you say so.
